We have been reading GA Picture Book Award Nominees in the Media Center and voted for our favorites! The book, "We Don't Eat Our Classmates" received the most votes followed by "When A Wolf is Hungry." 4th and 5th Grade Students have been constructing Cubelet Robots in the Media Center. K-3rd Grade Students will be next! K-2nd Grade Students are creating Bio Hearts for Black History Month. They are using PebbleGo to research a Famous African American and are reading or listening to the information about a person they are interested in and adding biographical information to their Bio Heart. They are doing a great job! 3rd Grade Students have been participating in Read to the Final Four and have advanced to the Round of 68! Congratulations and keep reading! We are participating in a book and pajama drive for the Pajama Program! Please consider donating new pajamas and new hardback books for this great cause! Thanks Kids Care for helping! We chose this week because Dr. Seuss's Birthday and Read Across America Day is on March 2nd. Please help your student be 100% Accountable and have them check their backpack, rooms, bookshelves, etc. for any overdue books! We are looking forward to a great 2020 in the Media Center! We will be voting for our favorite Georgia Picture Books and Children's Books this month! 4th and 5th grade students color coded in the Media Center using the Ozobot Robot. Students created a map based on the book "The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School" and had their Ozobot travel through a map of our school. Congratulations to Charvi and Rhea for getting 1st Place in the Fulton County Technology Competition in the category of Mobile Apps! They will be going on to the State Technology Competition in March--Good Luck Charvi and Rhea! Liangheng also received 3rd Place in the category of Project Programming, Congratulations! Our 3rd Graders continue to be in 1st Place in their bracket for the NCAA Read to the Final Four competition! Keep up the great work 3rd Grade Readers! Next up in the Dolvin Maker Space: Cubelets! Students did a great job of returning their books before the Winter Break! Since our Mindset for this month is 100% Accountable, we would like to have more classes with no overdue books! Please help your student find their overdue books and return them to the Media Center. Here are some of our Media Center helpers gathering books before the break. We have been busy in the Media Center building with Keva Planks and Legos! K-2nd read the book The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf and built sturdy structures that the Big Bad Wolf (me) tried to blow down! Students added accessories such as a pool, garden, different ways to keep the wolf out, etc. 3rd Grade is participating in the NCAA Read to the Final Four Contest since the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament will be held in Atlanta. Dolvin 3rd Graders are reading books on a digital platform called myON and are in 1st place in their bracket and we have 6 readers in the top 10! Keep Reading 3rd Graders, we are so proud of you! 4th and 5th Grade Students also used Keva Planks to build a tower based on the book Really, Rapunzel Needed a Haircut: the Story of Rapunzel, as told by Dame Gothel. Two students from each team also made a parachute and the group made up a story about who jumped off the tower and what happened to them. There were some very creative stories! We had 12 students participate in the Fulton County Technology Competition! I will know the results on Friday and will post here if any of our students placed! Thanks for all of your hard work. November has been a super busy month in the Media Center! Today we celebrated reading with Thankful for Reading Day! We dressed up as chefs and read cooking themed books. We had the Dolvin Technology Competition on November 19th and advanced 9 entries to the Fulton County Technology Competition to be held on Saturday, December 14th! Thanks for everyone who took part in this event and good luck to those moving on! Our 3rd Graders are Reading to the Final Four and are currently in 1st Place! Good job, we are so thankful that you love to read! Our Digital Citizenship Parent Meeting was a great success! Thanks to our Student Tech Team for showing parents many of the Digital Tools that we use at Dolvin! Also, thanks to the parents who attended! We earned our Digital Citizenship Badge from Common Sense Media! Thanks to all of the homeroom teachers for educating our students about how to be a Digital Citizen! Overdue book notices were sent out this week. Please help your student be 100% Accountable by looking for books over Thanksgiving Break!
We have been reading GA Picture Book Award Nominees in the Media Center! They are high quality picture books that connect to children, community and the curriculum. 3rd-5th grade will create book talks of their favorite picture book and K-2nd grade will conduct research on the book of their choice. We read the GA Picture Book Award Nominee, "Her Right Foot" by Dave Eggers, Illustrated by Shawn Harris. Students researched the Statue of Liberty on PebbleGo and shared what they learned by creating Word Clouds and sharing facts and drawings of the Statue of Liberty. Some classes used Keva Planks and Legos to make their own statues. Current lessons in the Media Center will include Non Fiction Text Features and Exploring Fiction Genres. Stay tuned for photos!
