We are celebrating Spring in the Media Center! K & 1 are planting and learning about plants. They made bookmarks about what they want to plant in their garden! Here are some pictures of their plants sprouting in the Media Center. 2nd Grade is learning about Butterflies and writing poems about the butterfly life cycle. They will release butterflies in the garden later in the Spring. 3rd Grade is reading "Tops & Bottoms" and writing about what they would like to grow in their garden. 4th Grade is reading "Miss Ruphius" and writing about how they will make the world more beautiful. 5th Grade is reading "Diana's White House Garden" and learning about Victory Gardens during WWII. They are also making origami butterflies and frogs to decorate the Media Center. Have a fantastic Spring Break!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday and Read Across America Day in the Media Center! It's so inspirational to see what students want to be when they grow up or where they want to go after reading Oh, The Places You'll Go! March is Women's History Month and students have been using iPads to access a quiz provided by PebbleGo to see what famous woman from history they share interests with. Click here to access the quiz. We have been creating Biography Pyramids in 1st and 2nd grade and creating ChatterPix in 3rd and 4th grade. Click here for an example of a ChatterPix! We are very excited about partnering with the Dolvin Discovery Lab to help K and 1st grade students learn about plants and planting! Right now classes are planting in the Discovery Lab and the plants are being stored in the Media Center windows where they can get plenty of light until we are ready to transplant them outdoors in the Children's Garden after Spring Break. The new Georgia Picture Book and Children's Book Award Nominees are out! Click here for the lists! Please help your students be 100% Accountable and return their library books! Students have been reading, doing book talks and voting for their favorite 2017-2018 Georgia Picture Book and Children's Book Award Nominees. One of our rules in the Media Center is to be 100% Accountable and "Return library books on time and in good condition!" Our library checkout period is for 2 weeks. We send overdue notices home approximately once a month and give overdue notices to teachers each time students come to the Media Center. Please help your students be 100% Accountable. Thank you! Friday, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss's Birthday and Read Across America Day! Saturday, March 10th we will have 2 teams participating in the State Technology Competition! Good Luck teams! Our STEAM Day was a huge success! Thanks to all of the students and teachers who participated and helped, especially our Student Tech Team and Christina Rand from the Atlanta Fulton Public Library System!
We will be having a STEAM Day on Tuesday, January 30th! Christina Rand, the Youth Outreach Librarian from the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will be bringing STEAM materials for us to use and we will also use many items from our grade level Maker Carts! Students will be exploring STEAM stations in the Media Center, Discovery Lab, Commons and Outside Field! Our Awesome Dolvin Student Tech Team will be assisting in all areas! Some of the STEAM materials we will be using include: Drones, Dot and Dash, Cubelets, Virtual Reality Headsets, Bloxels, Spheros, Osmo Kits, Ozobots, Circuit Scribes, Little Bits Kits, Code-A-Pillars, Rigamajig, 3D Pens, Makey makeys and Knex Kids. We are looking forward to our STEAM Day and will post lots of pictures!

Students are learning how to find books in the library. 3rd-5th grade students are making videos about how to use the library based on the Georgia Picture Book Award Nominee, Lion Lessons: From Awkward Cub to Awesome Lion in Seven Easy Steps! Kindergarten and 1st Grade Students have been learning about Non Fiction text features. The 4th and 5th Grade Book Talk Clubs are reading Georgia Children's Book Award Nominees and are posting Book Reviews and Recording Book Talks! We are getting in the Holiday Spirit on the Dolvin News Splash and in the Media Center! Remember to return or renew your books before the Holiday Break and if you have misplaced your books, look for them over the holidays! Have a fabulous Break! K-2nd grade had an author visit on Wednesday, November 8th. The author, Patrice McLaurin discussed her book, Have You Thanked an Inventor Today? She inspired creative thought in our students and discussed how to be an author!

We are reading the book in the Media Center and learning about African American Inventors. We are also brainstorming about inventions that would make life easier, safer, or more fun! A 4th & 5th Grade Book Talk Club will be starting in the Media Center! We will be reading the 2017-2018 GA Children's Book Award Nominees and creating Book Talks.
